How to connect your ADSL modem on 12V battery when there is power outage.

In present day people are increasingly dependent on the Internet, to communicate, work, study and have fun.
So imagine the following hypothetical situation:
You came home and you want to finish that school or college research paper, reply to the email that important client or even just watch a movie after a hard day of work, and suddenly your neighborhood is without electricity for several hours .
       Hard, is not?
I have good news for you.
You know that your phone line is still working right?
But did you know that your Internet signal is still also coming to your home?
Yes, the phone companies have batteries and generators throughout the network so that you continue to receive these services.
But how can I use the internet if my modem must receive utility power?
Note that what is on the grid is a converter that will receive 110V or 220V AC voltage, and will provide only 12V DC voltage for your modem. Now 12V DC voltage is just what you have in a car battery or those alarm batteries (deep cycle batteries).

So what you need to do is find a cable with a connector that fits your modem's power input, identify their + and - terminals, connect it to the battery and connect it to the modem.

 Cable connector.

Identifying polarities.

Identify the polarity of your cable doing a driving test: Place the key multimeter diode selector in position, pull one of the probes multimeter the plug hole and the other end of a wire at the other end.

Connection to the battery.

Operation test

**** PLEASE CHECK BEFORE IF YOUR SOURCE MODEM IS 12V ****

Connect the plug on the modem and wait for him to call.

*****Attention******

Although the source of my modem indicate 12V, I plugged it into the outlet and measured with a multimeter the output value and only gave 11V. Despite that used a battery with exact 12V and it worked perfectly until the voltage drops to 11V.

When charging your battery, be sure the voltage exceeds 12V, modem security, and not discharge below 11V, for battery safety.

I have a post here on the blog where I explain how you can build a generator to replenish your battery if the "blackout" lasts.

Thank you, and even more.
